Alan Moore
Associate Planner
Alan joined Financial Service Group as an Associate Planner in November, 2011. He is a Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC®), a designation granted by the International Foundation for Retirement Education. Alan has passed the Certified Financial Planner™ exam, and is currently fulfilling the experience requirement necessary to become a CFP®. He is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisers (NAPFA); the nation’s largest organization of fee-only financial planners. He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association, the Financial Therapy Association, and the Young Professionals of Racine.
Alan graduated with honors with dual bachelor degrees in Family Financial Planning and Consumer Economics from the University of Georgia. He is currently writing his thesis to complete his M.S. in Family Financial Planning.
While an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Georgia, Alan was the lead coordinator of a free income tax preparation clinic for low income families in the community. As a graduate student, he had the opportunity to teach several financial planning undergraduate classes which helped him to develop as a teacher and mentor; skills that have proven invaluable in working with clients. He also worked at The Aspire Clinic, a University-sponsored center that specialized in helping members of the community who were experiencing financial and relationship distress.
His work at the Clinic inspired Alan to move to Rapid City, South Dakota to work with Rick Kahler, a nationally recognized pioneer in Financial Therapy; the practice of collaboration between personal financial planning and the psychology of money. As a result of his experience working with Rick for a year, Alan adopted integrating psychology into the financial planning process as necessary in helping clients truly achieve Financial Wellness. Alan’s approach to financial planning is to be an educator to his clients. He believes that by educating clients on the various options available they can make the best decision for them, both financially and emotionally.
Alan’s thoughts and viewpoints have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Investment News, Kiplinger, and more. In his free time, Alan enjoys spending time with his wife Melissa, participating in various outdoor activities, and watching University of Georgia football.
